Recently\u00a0University Grants Commission (UGC)<\/strong> published a list of 123 deemed to be university and restrict them from using the word “University”. The higher education authority asked these 123 Deemed-to-be-Universities<\/strong> to drop the word “University” from their names. The letter was giving reference to Supreme court order dated 03 November 2017 and asked\u00a0Deemed-to-be universities to drop the word University within one month of the court order as it is also a violation of Section 23 of UGC act.<\/p>\n

Supreme court restrict all deemed-to-be-universities to carry on any courses in distance education<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe restrain all Deemed to be Universities to carry on any courses in distance education mode from the Academic Session 2018- 2019 onwards unless and until it is permissible to conduct such courses in distance education mode and specific permissions\u00a0are granted by the concerned statutory\/regulatory authorities in respect of each of those courses and unless the off-campus Centres\/Study Centres are individually inspected and found adequate by the concerned Statutory Authorities\u201d, said the bench…<\/p>\n
