UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020

UPSC Combined Geoscientist and Geologist 2020 notification will be released on 21 March 2020 and its exam is going to be held on 29 June 2020. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts this exam and is responsible for the recruitment of Group A post of Geophysicist, Geologist and Chemist in the Geological Survey of the country and Junior Hydrologist for the central group Water Board.

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020

Every candidate has to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the application form. The candidate should come under or satisfy the eligibility criteria for the job. Below is given the eligibility criteria:

Nationality Criteria:

  • Hold the nationality of India. Or,
  • be a subject of Bhutan. Or,
  • be a subject of Nepal. Or,
  • be of Indian origin but migrated either from East African countries of Kenya, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam. Or,
  • Be among Tibetan refugees who came across the country in prior of the 1st January 1962 for permanent settling over here.

Age Criteria:

  • Age norms for Geologist and Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A’) in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines: 4
  • Candidates’ date of birth should fall not before than 2nd January 1986 and not after than 1st January 1997.
  • Age norms for For Jr. Hydrogeologist (Scientist B) (Group A) in Central Groundwater Board, Ministry of Water Resources:
  • Candidates’ date of birth should fall not before than 2nd January 1983 and not after than 1st January 1997.

Is there any age relaxation for reserved category candidates?

  • For Ex-servicemen category candidates: 5 Years
  • For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled tribal: 5 years
  • For OBC: 3 years
  • For Deaf-mute, Blind and Orthopaedically disabled category applicants: 10 years

Educational Criteria:

Educational norms for Geologists Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Candidates should have obtained Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Marine Geology or Oceanography and Geochemistry or Geological Technology or Coastal Area Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geophysical Technology.

Chemists Group ‘A ‘: Educational norms for Chemists Group ‘A ‘ in Geological Survey of India: Candidates should hold a recognized M.Sc degree in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry or Applied Chemistry.

Geophysicists Group ‘A’: Educational norms for Geophysicists Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Candidates should hold a recognized M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc Physics or M.Sc (Geophysics) degree.

Online Application Form for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020

The candidates who are interested and eligible can fill the application form online from the official website. Applications, which are submitted after the mentioned deadline, will not be accepted by the authority under any circumstances. So, candidates should submit the application form on time.

Application Fee

Candidates have to make payment of Rs.200/- as application fee. You are exempted from making payment of a fee if you fall or come under the category of SC/ST/PH/Female. The prescribed payment mode is either through debit card/Credit card/net banking or in cash at any SBI branch.

Exam Pattern

  • There will be two major parts of the question paper i.e. Part 1 and Part II respectively.
  • Part 1 is a written test whereas; part II will be an Interview/Personality test.
  • The General English paper of 100 marks will be common to all categories of candidates.
