Odisha NMMS 2024 or Odisha National Means Cum Merit (NMMS) exam will be held in January 2024. It is a centrally sponsored scholarship scheme starting from the students of class 8th. This scheme is implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy with the help of the Ministry of Human Resources. National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS)

The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS) is a scholarship exam conducted by the Government of India for students studying in class 8. The exam is conducted to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections of society.

The Odisha NMMS 2024 will be conducted on February 18, 2024. The exam will be held in two parts:

  • MAT (Mental Ability Test): This is a 30-minute test consisting of 50 questions.
  • SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test): This is a 60-minute test consisting of 100 questions.

The questions in the MAT will be of non-verbal reasoning type, while the questions in the SAT will be of verbal and numerical ability type.

Odisha NMMS 2024

  • The minimum qualifying marks for the Odisha NMMS 2024 are 40% in each paper. The cut-off marks will be different for different categories of students.
  • The scholarship amount under the NMMS scheme is Rs. 12,000 per year for classes 9 to 12. The scholarship is renewable every year, subject to the student maintaining the required academic standard.
  • The application form for the Odisha NMMS 2024 will be available online on the official website of the Directorate of Teacher Education and SCERT Odisha. The last date to apply for the exam is October 31, 2023.
  • The results of the Odisha NMMS 2024 will be announced in April 2024. The merit list will be published on the official website of the Directorate of Teacher Education and SCERT Odisha.
  • Here are the eligibility criteria for Odisha NMMS 2024:
  • The candidate must have passed class 7 or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 55% of marks in class 7.
  • The candidate’s family annual income should not exceed Rs. 1,50,000.

NMMS Odisha 2024-23 Application Process

The students need to keep in mind the eligibility criteria before applying for the scholarship. The eligible students who wish to apply for the scholarship may apply online directly through NSP. The step-by-step application process is mentioned below. 

  • First of all the applicants need to register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) as a new user. 
  • The applicants are advised to keep the scanned copies of all required documents with them while filling the application of form.
  • Aadhar card number, state domicile certificate, Educational qualifications, school enrollment number and bank details are needed while filling up the form.
  • After registering on NSP, an application ID is generated which is used as the login ID for future references. 
  • The applicants of class 9 and class 10 have to apply under the pre-matric scholarship.
  • The applicants of class 11 and class 12 have to apply under the post-matric scholarship.
  • All the personal details required such as full name, date of birth, email id and mobile number should be filled in very carefully.
  • Upload all the necessary documents and details and save them in drafts.
  • After filling in all the details correctly and attaching all the documents, the students need to finally submit the completed form.

Odisha NMMS 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship scheme is only applicable for meritorious and financially weak students. The students need to fulfill all the eligibility conditions mentioned below to be eligible for the test conducted for the selection of students.

  • The applicant must be a regular student of class 9 who has cleared class 8 with a score of a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade.
  • The applicant must be pursuing his/her studies from a government-aided school.
  • The family income of the applicant should not be more than 1.5 lakhs per annum.
  • The scholarship awardee must score a minimum of 60% in the board exams of class 10 for the continuation of the scholarship.
  • For the scholarship in class 12, the scholarship awardee must get clear promotion from class 11 with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade.
  • A relaxation of 5% is given to the students of scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, and other backward classes.
  • The students who are studying in the institutes like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik schools, and private schools can not apply for the scholarship scheme. 
  • Students studying in residential schools which are run by the state government and have facilities like lodging, boarding, and education are not eligible to apply for the scholarship 

NMMS Odisha selection criteria

NMMS is a central scholarship scheme. A selection test is conducted by the state government for the respective students of the state. The test includes 

  • mental ability test  (MAT)
  • Scholastic aptitude test (SAT)

Students have to complete each test in a maximum of 90 minutes. The guidelines of the test are stated by NCERT. However, Students with special abilities are given some extra time to complete the test. 

  •  The mental Ability test examines the reasoning abilities and critical thinking of students with 90 multiple-choice questions. The questions are based on analogy, numerical series, classification, pattern perception, hidden figures, etc.
  • The scholastic aptitude test also consists of 90 multiple choice questions covering the subjects of science, maths, and social studies from the syllabus of class 7 and class 8. 

NMMS 2024-23 Odisha Rewards 

  • NMMS distributes over 1,00,000 scholarships every year. 
  • The government provides the selected students with a stipend of 1000 INR every month which equals 12,000 INR per annum. 
  • Under the National Means cum Merit scholarship, this reward money is provided to the students directly to the student’s account by the State Bank Of India(SBI) in one go through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
  • The scholarship is renewed every year till the selected students complete their higher secondary level of education (class 12).

Odisha NMMS Result 2024-23 

  • Once the selection test is completed, the government announces the list of students who have qualified for the test. 
  • The students must have passed each SAT and MAT with a minimum of 40%
  • However, there is a relaxation in the minimum required marks for the students who belong to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, or other backward classes. 
  • The cutoff for the reserved categories is 32%
  • The applicants must have passed the final exam of class 8 with a minimum of 55% to avail of the scholarship. There is a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST categories.
