The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University or MGR University is a State University centered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. MG Ramachandran (MGR), and is the second-largest health sciences University in India. The University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Medicine (MBBS), Dentistry (BDS), Nursing, Allied Health Professions, and Indigenous Medicine, and so on. This is the only Medical University in Tamil Nadu capable of granting affiliation to new institutions under Government or self-financing in Medical, Dental, Indian Medicine/ Homoeopathy and Allied Health Sciences (Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and so on) and awarding degrees under a single umbrella to preserve unbroken and high values of education. Until 1988, all degrees of Health Sciences were presented by the University of Madras.
