Tripura University Distance Education
The Directorate of Distance Education was established in 1996 to impart higher education through distance mode with a multi-media approach. As a non-formal, supplementary mode of education, distance education differs from the conventional formal system in the objective to reach the unreached, to include the excluded. Tripura University has consistently promoted Distance Education on approved UGC and Distance Education Council, New Delhi guidelines to cater to the needs of – 1. Students who discontinued their formal education owing to pecuniary and other circumstances. 2. Students living in geographically remote areas. 3. Students who discontinued their education because of lack of aptitude and motivation but later on became motivated. 4. In-service persons, housewives, etc. At present, there are more than 3690 students studying under this Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), which is by itself indicative of the popularity and reliability of the Directorate of Distance Education, Tripura University, among the common mass in general, as well as among students in particular of the State. Following courses are provided through distance education Board of the University:

Tripura University Admission Process
For admission at Tripura University, interested students have to fill the application form in online mode. Students are expected to submit scores for either national level entrance exam, depending on course, or CET conducted by university. For admission to M.Phil, applicants must appear on the Research Eligibility Test (RET) exam. The students' final selection is based on the qualifications obtained from the applicable exams.

- Along with the application form, a fee of INR 780 is charged for general category students and INR 580 for SC/ ST students

Counselling
The candidates will be called for counselling in the order of merit based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination. The prescribed fee and the following original documents with one set of photocopies shall be produced at the time of counselling for admission.

Tripura University
