About Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University [SMVDU] established under the Jammu & Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Act, 1999 as an autonomous, highly technical and fully residential varsity. The University started functioning as the academic unit in August 2004, when it was inaugurated on 19th Aug 2004 at the hands of the then, Hon’ble President of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, who also delivered the first lecture to the students of this varsity. The University approved by the UGC and the technical programs of the varsity recognized by AICTE while, the architecture program recognized by the Council of Architecture. So, coming to the mission of the University is ‘the pursuit of Education, Scholarship and the Research and its Application to the society at the highest international levels of excellence’. SMVDU has over 20 collaborations and houses one college of Nursing (SMVD College of Nursing), four faculties, consisting of 15 Schools.
