DBT JRF 2022 Registration Process: Exam Pattern, Cutoff, Results

DBT JRF Registration Process- The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, conducts the DBT BET JRF test for biotechnology candidates who desire to pursue a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) after completing their M.SC or post-graduation. The DBT biotechnology fellowship is awarded to those who pass the exam. Candidates who pass the DBT JRF exam are eligible for the fellowship amount or the research contingency. The government awards meritorious individuals fellowships in order to foster research. Candidates are given assistance by the government to continue their research.

DBT JRF 2022 Selection Process: Stage-Wise Details

The following is a full summary of all steps of the DBT-JRF selection process, and students can review the selection criteria for each level to better understand the process:

Step 1: Create a Login ID and Password
  • The initial step is to fill out the DBT JRF Application Form 2021 and register yourself by providing basic information.
  • Following registration, you will receive an email with your User ID/registration number and password.
  • Use the registration number and password to access the portal.
  • Fill in your personal and educational information.
  • Check all of the details once more.
  • On the portal, upload the relevant documents.
  • Finish the application by paying the fee after you've uploaded the document.
  • Take a hard copy or a soft copy of the completed application for future use.
  • Candidates whose applications are accepted by the DBT-JRF will receive their admission cards in the last week of September.
Step 2: Take the computer-based online examination
  • For all candidates who successfully submit their filled application forms before the deadline, DBT will conduct a computer-based test. The test will consist of a single multiple-choice question paper divided into two portions.
  • The first component, Section A, is referred to as the 'General' section and consists of 50 questions worth 150 points. Math, Chemistry, Quantitative Ability, General Aptitude, and other subjects may be covered in this area. All 50 questions must be answered by the candidates.
  • The second half, Section B, which is subject-specific, contains 150 questions, of which the candidate is only required to attempt 50.
  • The paper will be worth a maximum of 300 points, and the exam will last 180 minutes (3 hours).
  • Candidates who pass the DBT-JRF online exam are placed on a merit list for final consideration of the JRF fellowship grant.
Step 3: DBT JRF Merit List Announcement
  • The number of DBT Junior Research Fellowship slots is actually the number of students who are awarded the Junior Research Fellowship. The DBT-JRF merit list is generated for the following two categories:
  • Category I - 275 vасаnсies (hD fallоwshiр in Biоteсhnоlоgy аnd Life Sсienсes рrоgrаms at any Institute in Indiа).
  • Cаtegоry II - 100 vасаncies (rоject sponsored by DBT and equivalent to NET / GATE).
Step 4: Personal Interview with DBT JRF
  • A personal interview is the next step in the selection process. Qualified candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of merit will be required to participate in personal interviews at various institutions, laboratories, and university departments.
  • DBT JRF award letters will be sent only after all certificates have been verified.
  • Candidates are asked about their research idea during the personal interview, and expert committees from several disciplines analyse their academic records and past project work. Candidates are chosen from a pool of applicants based on their performance in a personal interview.
  • Only after a screening process based on criteria established by various institutions/laboratories/university departments will candidates be invited for an interview.
  • Research proposals that are relevant to the research agendas of the laboratories/institutions where the candidate applied and, most importantly, are of national relevance are given priority.
Step 5: DBT JRF Fellowship Award
  • The final stage of the selection process will be the awarding of a certificate to the Department of Biotechnology's Junior Research Fellow (JRF). Only those candidates who can enrol for a PhD programme in research institutes/laboratories and universities within two years of the DBT-JRF exam results will be considered for a fellowship.
  • The Fellowship will be awarded to the candidates after the necessary elements of the examination, research activities, and research topic have been verified.
  • Candidates selected for the DBT JRF would receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 31000 plus House Rent Allowance (HRA).
  • Candidates who are hired are also eligible for a Rs. 30000 Research Contingency.
