GRE 2023 Registration has been started online. It is the world's largest assessment exam for undergraduates to get admissions in graduate schools around the world including both Business and Law. Applicants may appear GRE at home due to circumstantial risk. Only the applicants will be tested by an online proctor called ProctorU. The evaluation will be similar to the type of test centre. GRE Program is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) under the policies determined by the GRE Board, an independent board affiliated with the Association of Graduate Schools (AGS), and the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS). GRE measures the candidates on three parameters - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. It has two parts - Computer-delivered and Paper delivered. GRE 2023 Application Form

Whether the candidate wants to appear for a computer-delivered test or paper-delivered test, he/she can get to know the exam date only when the candidate has submitted his application before. The following points should be adhered to while starting up the GRE application 2023:

  • Create an ETS account first.
  • Decide which exam to take up – Paper-delivered or Computer-delivered.
  • Read about the relevant requirements and exam fees.
  • Read all about “reschedule and cancellation policies”.
  • Determine which graduate institution to send the GRE scores to.
Availability in Online Mode: Throughout the year, once every 21 days, up to 5 times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days).
Availability in Offline Mode: Gets conducted up to 3 times a year where computer-delivered testing is not available.

GRE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

The only eligibility requirement for GRE 2023 is the document required to prove the candidate's identity. In India, the candidate should have a valid passport. The Candidate has to get their original passport (not photocopies) which clearly shows the full name, photograph, signature, and other specific information. No other documents (like Birth Certificate, International driving license, etc) can be used as alternate identity proof. Apart from this eligibility requirement, ETS does not set any age, qualification, timing-related pre-requisites that have to be followed. However, there is a range of eligibility criteria set by universities that accept GRE scores.

  1. Unidentified unscored section: This section particularly is not counted in the GRE final score. The purpose of the section is to test questions prepared for future GRE General Test. There is no way of identifying which section this is, so skipping this section is not an option in which the candidates can opt.
  2. Identified Research Section: It is also not included in the GRE final score. The section might be included in the place of the unscored section. The research section would appear at the end of the test. The questions in this section are included for ETS Research Purposes.
Paper delivered Test Pattern
  • The paper is differentiated into six sections – two sections each of Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning.
  • The duration of the test is 3 hours 30 minutes with a 10 minutes break after the second section.
  • ETS provides a calculator for candidates to solve some questions. Candidates are strictly not allowed to bring their calculators.
  • Analytical writing sections will be the first in the sequence of sections while the order of remaining sections is not fixed.

  • GRE Subject Test will be conducted only in the paper-delivered format.
  • The exam for each subject is conducted three times a year in April, September, and October particularly.
  • The total duration of each subject test is 2 hours and 50 minutes.

GRE 2023 Admit Card 

The GRE admission 2023 confirmation mail is sent to candidates by mail after the process of registration. Candidates have to bring the mail to the centre with other mandatory things on the day of the exam. The mandatory thing which is needed to keep in mind is the Original ID documents:

With few exceptions, ID documents must meet all of the following requirements. Each ID document must:
  • Be an original document; photocopied documents are not acceptable and documents cannot be presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device
  • be a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which applicants are a citizen or permanent resident
  • be valid; expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable
  • bear the first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test
  • include a recent, recognizable photograph
  • include a signature (the name and signature on the ID document must match)

The admission ticket/ hall ticket/admit card confirms the choice of test, test date, time, and the test centre with some other candidate's details.

Note - Not all of them offer the computerized test, some may offer the Paper-delivered test. Candidates can find the exact address and seat availability on the ETS website itself after they select the country (India) and city from the dropdown list.

GRE 2023 Scoring System

  • GRE General Test:
    • The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning section are scored on a range of 130-170, 1 mark for each answer.
    • Analytical Reasoning is scored in a range of  0–6, half mark for each answer.
    • If an aspirant does not answer any questions of any/all measures, then a No Score (NS) is stated for that measure.
  • GRE Subject Test:
    • All the subject tests are scored on a range of 200-990, giving 10 point increments.
    • The Biology and Psychology Tests are scored on a range of 20–99 score scale, giving 1 point increment.

GRE 2023 Syllabus

The syllabus is different for both the GRE tests - GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. General Test is the standard exam that tests with the topic like- verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. Candidates who wish to pursue specialized subjects, need to take the Subject Test that might be required by the university they are seeking admission to, as Subject Test focuses on judging the candidate’s expertise and intelligence in specific fields.

GRE 2023 Result

The official test scores will be available in candidates' accounts on the GRE website after logging with their registered Id. They will be sent to the universities of their choice within six weeks of their test date automatically. Once the results are out, the candidate will receive an email from ETS that their official GRE result is available in their account and can check the same.

GRE 2023 GRE Test Day Guidelines
  • Report to the test centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled exam time.
  • Food, beverages, and tobacco are not allowed in the exam room.
  • The test administrator will assign a specified seat.
  • The candidates are required to remain in the exam centre building until the exam gets over. It is the applicant's responsibility to ask the test administrator for permission to leave the test centre vicinity for some emergency purpose.
  • The given exam session will be actively monitored by the test centre staff.
  • Before the test, candidates will receive instructions from test centre staff regarding where to store their items.

What is the GRE Subject Test?

The GRE Subject Test evaluates the candidates’ ability on a particular subject. Generally, this test is required for getting admission in specialized courses.
