Based on the confirmed 2026 cycle — in which Session 1 was held in January 2026 and Session 2 was held in April 2026 — and the historical pattern going back to 2019, we expect the 2027 schedule to follow a broadly similar timeline. The official announcement, registration portal opening and information brochure are typically released by NTA in the October–November window of the year preceding the exam, meaning candidates should watch for a notification around October–November 2026.

Having covered every JEE Main cycle for years, a few things stand out from our experience of each cycle:
- Last-date server load is real. Every cycle without exception, the NTA portal slows significantly in the final hours before the application deadline. We strongly advise candidates to submit the form and pay the fee at least two to three days before the official last date.
- Document specification errors are the most common rejection cause. The photograph and signature dimension requirements (see the Application Form section below) are checked by an automated system; a JPEG even slightly outside the permitted file-size range triggers a rejection that requires a correction window to fix — which may or may not coincide with your schedule.
- Aadhaar details cause avoidable delays. Candidates who have not linked their Aadhaar or whose name on Aadhaar does not exactly match their Class 10 certificate regularly face issues during form-filling. Verify your Aadhaar details well before registration opens — ideally by September 2026.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
There is no upper age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. NTA removed the age-limit restriction in earlier cycles and this is expected to continue. Candidates of any age who meet the educational qualification requirement may apply.
Educational Qualification
- The candidate must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board, or must be appearing in the Class 12 examination in 2027.
- The qualifying examination must include at least five subjects, with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Technical Vocational subject.
- For admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs: candidates must secure a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12 (or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board). For SC/ST candidates the minimum is 65%. This criterion is set by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and may be revised — confirm from the official JoSAA brochure.
- Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026 are also eligible to appear in JEE Main 2027.
Number of Attempts
A candidate may appear in JEE Main for a maximum of three consecutive years from the year of their first attempt. Since both sessions within a year (January and April) are treated as part of the same annual cycle for the purpose of admissions, appearing in both sessions in 2027 counts as one year of attempts, not two. Candidates who are unsure whether they have exhausted their attempt limit should carefully verify using the official information brochure once released.
Class 12 Pass Year
For JEE Main 2027, candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025, 2026 or are appearing in 2027 are eligible. Candidates who passed before 2025 are generally not eligible unless specific relaxations are notified.
JEE Main 2027 Application Form
The application form for JEE Main 2027 will be available exclusively in online mode at jeemain.nta.nic.in. There is no offline application process. Below is a step-by-step breakdown of how to complete the registration.
Steps to Fill the JEE Main 2027 Application Form
- Step 1 — Registration: Visit the official website, click on the JEE Main 2027 registration link, and create a new account using a valid email ID and mobile number. Note your application number carefully.
- Step 2 — Fill the Online Application Form: Enter personal details (name as on Class 10 certificate, date of birth, category, state of eligibility), academic details and choice of exam centres. Aadhaar card details will be required.
- Step 3 — Upload Scanned Images: Upload a recent passport-size photograph and your signature (and parent/guardian signature where required) as per the specifications listed below.
- Step 4 — Payment of Application Fee: Pay the examination fee online via debit card, credit card or net banking up to 11:50 PM on the last date. E-challan for offline (bank) payment has been available in earlier cycles — verify from the 2027 brochure.
- Step 5 — Print Acknowledgement: After successful payment, download and print the confirmation/acknowledgement page for your records.
Important: Session 2 Registration is Separate
Even if you appeared in Session 1 (January 2027), you must register separately and afresh for Session 2 (April 2027). There is no automatic carry-forward of Session 1 registration. Both registrations use the same portal but require independent form-filling and fee payment.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern
NTA has maintained a consistent exam pattern across recent cycles. The following is based on the established pattern and is expected to remain the same for 2027 unless NTA announces changes in the official brochure.
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) and Paper 2B (B.Planning); Paper 2A (B.Arch) has CBT sections plus an offline Drawing Test on a drawing sheet provided at the centre.

JEE Main 2027 Admit Card
The admit card (hall ticket) for JEE Main 2027 will be released by NTA on the official portal jeemain.nta.nic.in separately for each session. JEE Main 2027 Result and NTA Score
The result of JEE Main 2027 will be published as an NTA Score — a percentile score computed separately for each subject and as a total — rather than a raw mark. This normalisation method accounts for difficulty variation across multiple shifts and sessions. Key details:

JEE Main 2027 Cut-off Trends
There are two types of cut-offs relevant to JEE Main:
- Qualifying cut-off for JEE Advanced: The minimum NTA Score required to be among the top 2.5 lakh qualifiers. This is released with the result.
- Admission cut-off (JoSAA): Opening and closing ranks for each course and category at each participating institute — released during JoSAA counselling rounds.

JEE Main 2027 Counselling
NTA does not conduct counselling for JEE Main. Counselling and seat allotment for NITs, IIITs and CFTIs is managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) in online mode. Key facts:
- JoSAA counselling is centralised and covers seats at IITs (via JEE Advanced rank), NITs, IIITs and CFTIs (via JEE Main rank).
- Eligible candidates register on the JoSAA portal (typically josaa.nic.in), fill in their choice of institutes and courses, and are allotted seats across multiple rounds based on rank, category and seat availability.
- Seat acceptance requires online reporting and document verification.
- In addition to JoSAA, many state governments and private institutions also conduct separate counselling using JEE Main scores. Candidates should track notifications from their respective state counselling authorities (e.g., MHT-CET counselling in Maharashtra uses JEE Main scores for some categories — verify separately).

Preparation Guide for JEE Main 2027
JEE Main 2027 will see two broad categories of candidates, each with a different strategic position entering the exam cycle.
Type A — Candidates Appearing in JEE Main for the First Time in 2027
If you are appearing in JEE Main for the first time — whether in Session 1 or Session 2 — your preparation approach should be grounded in NCERT mastery first, followed by selective use of reference texts for problem-solving depth. After Session 1 question papers and answer keys are released (typically in February 2027), you will have approximately two months to analyse the level of questions before Session 2. Use this window to identify weak areas and revise accordingly. The NTA’s stated goal of bringing qualitative rigour to the examination means that conceptual clarity matters more than rote memorisation of formulae.
Type B — Candidates Appearing in Both Sessions (January and April 2027)
Appearing in both sessions is unambiguously beneficial — there is no penalty for attempting both, and only your best NTA Score is used for the rank list. Treat Session 1 as a high-stakes mock: analyse your performance thoroughly after the exam but before Session 2 registration closes, so you can course-correct. Candidates who appeared in Session 1 in a previous year (2025 or 2026) and are attempting again in 2027 should ensure they are within the three-consecutive-year attempt limit and meet the eligibility requirements.
General Preparation Tips
- Complete NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 textbooks for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics before moving to reference books — every JEE Main cycle rewards candidates who have NCERT concepts firmly in place.
- Solve previous-year JEE Main papers (2019 onwards, NTA-conducted) for question-style familiarity and to calibrate time management within 3 hours.
- Practice NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions separately — there is no negative marking for NAT, making educated attempts worthwhile.
- Take at least four to five full-length CBT mock tests on a computer interface before Session 1 — navigating the CBT interface under time pressure is a skill in itself.
- For B.Arch aspirants: Practice drawing regularly; the Drawing Test (Paper 2A) is offline and time-limited, requiring both accuracy and speed.
