CBSE 10th Class Mathematics Basic and Standard in 2024: Central Board of Secondary Education released a circular regarding 10th class Mathematics Board Exams. As per the circular, the existing Mathematics Board Examination is the standard-level examination. There will be no change in syllabus, Question papers for both Standard-Level and Basic-level will be based on the existing syllabus. However, the Standard-Level Mathematics assesses higher Mathematical abilities compared to Basic-Level. Accordingly, the difficulty level of Mathematics – ‘Basic’ is less than that of Mathematics-‘Standard’.

The major change is student opting for Basic-Level Mathematics at class 10th then they can not opt for Mathematics as a subject in 11th and 12th class. Mathematics-Standard is to be passed at Class X, for taking up Mathematics at Sr. Secondary level.

  • The Basic syllabus covers the essential concepts of Mathematics that are required for all students.
  • The Standard syllabus covers a wider range of concepts and is more challenging.
  • The Standard syllabus includes some topics that are not covered in the Basic syllabus, such as Trigonometry and Probability.
  • The Standard syllabus requires students to have a deeper understanding of the concepts and to be able to apply them in more complex situations.

The decision of whether to take the Basic or Standard syllabus for CBSE Class 10 Mathematics depends on the student’s individual interests and abilities. Students who are interested in pursuing a career in Mathematics or Science may want to take the Standard syllabus. However, students who are not interested in these fields may find that the Basic syllabus is sufficient.

CBSE 10th Class Mathematics Basic and Standard in 2024

CBSE will conduct the two papers for 10th class Mathematics exam. CBSE has announced there will be two Mathematics papers for students of 10th class. Before 2024, CBSE used to conduct only one mathematics exam. But now, CBSE has released two levels of class 10 mathematics exam i.e Basic and standard.

The reason behind this is to cater to the two sets of students.

  1. Students who want to pursue Mathematics after class 10.
  2. Students who don’t want to pursue Mathematics after their class 10.

So, the basic level Mathematics exam is for the students who font want to pursue Mathematics after class 10. Whereas, Standard level Mathematics exam is for the students who want Mathematics even after class 10.

TWO LEVELS OF EXAMINATIONS IN MATHEMATICS IN Class-X

As the Board has introduced TWO LEVELS OF EXAMINATIONS IN MATHEMATICS IN Class-X, hence Circular No. F.1002/CBSE/Dir (Acad)/Mathematics/2019 dated 10 January 2019 (Circular No. Acad-03/2019) issued by CBSE and available at http://cbseacademic.nic.in/web_material/Circulars/2019/03_Circular_2019.pdf may be studied carefully before filling the LOC for Class-X.

In Case of Failure and Compartment options

In case student fails at any level of Maths board exam, the student can appear at the compartment examination as per norms of the CBSE Board according to the options given below:

A student who qualifies the Mathematics-Basic level may appear in Mathematics-Standard at the time of Compartment exams as per Board norms, in case they change their mind to pursue Mathematics at Senior Secondary level i.e 11th and 12th class.
