West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2020 is a state-level entrance examination conducted for admissions into various universities, government colleges, and a few self-financed institutions. It is organized by the WBJEEB or West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board.  The institutions that come under the WBJEEB have their specific eligibility criteria along with a few common criteria for all the institutions. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before they apply for admission. The examination allows candidates admission into courses like engineering and technology, pharmacy, and architecture. Each course also has specific eligibility criteria. The article below gives a deeper description of these WBJEE 2020 Eligibility. 

WBJEE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are advised to ensure their WBJEE 2020 eligibility before start filling the application form. Check all the essential points concern with WB Joint Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria given below:

General Eligibility Criteria 

Below are a few general WBJEE 2020 eligibility:
  • Nationality: Candidates of the Indian nationality are only eligible for appearing for WBJEE. Candidates of other nationalities will not be permitted to apply for the examination. 
  • Age criteria: A candidate must be at least 17 years old as on 31st December 2020 and must be born on or before 31st December 2003. There is no upper limit for WBJEE. Marine engineering is an exception to this. For applying to this course, the candidate must not have more than 25 years of age as on 31st December 2020. 

Educational Eligibility Criteria

For Engineering:
  • Qualifying examination: A candidate must have passed the 10+2 examinations from any recognized board of education. 
  • Compulsory subjects: A candidate must have Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects along with any of chemistry/ biotechnology /biology/ computer science/ computer application as the third compulsory subject with individual pass marks in all the three subjects in the regular study mode.
  • Percentage of marks required: A candidate must have secured at least 45% marks in all the three compulsory subjects taken together. This number is limited to 40% for reserved categories. 
A candidate is also required to pass the 10+2 examinations with a minimum of 30% score in English. 
For Pharmacy:
  • Qualifying examination: A candidate must have passed the 10+2 examinations from any recognized board of education. 
  • Compulsory subjects: A candidate must have Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with any of mathematics/ biology/biotechnology/computer science/computer application as the third compulsory subject. The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the regular study mode with individual pass marks in all the three subjects in both theory and practical aspects. 
  • Percentage of marks required: A candidate must have secured a minimum of 45% in all the three compulsory subjects taken together. This is reduced to 40% for reserved categories. 
A candidate is also required to pass the 10+2 examinations with a minimum of 30% marks in English. 
Candidates appearing for the 12th examinations can attempt the examination but their candidature is bound to be canceled if the candidate fails to satisfy the above-mentioned eligibility criteria during the admission process. 
The authorities of the conducting board, WBJEEB, hold complete rights to cancel the candidature of a candidate. 

Eligibility Criteria Institute Wise

The following is the list of universities and their particular eligibility criteria:

University of Calcutta
Qualifying Examination: A candidate must have passed class 10+2 from any recognized board.
Subjects: Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology as the third compulsory subject. 
Percentage Marks required: Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks (50% for reserved category candidates) in all the three compulsory subjects taken together with 30% marks in English.
For Jute and Fiber Technology: Must pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent examination from any recognized Board of education with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/ Biology as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (50% for Reserve Category) marks in the three subjects taken together and with a minimum of 30% marks in English.

 

Jadavpur University
Qualifying Examination: Applicants must have passed class 10+2 or its equivalent from a recognized board of education. 
Subjects: Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
Percentage Marks required: Candidates must have passed the qualifying exam with a minimum of 60% marks (50% for reserved category candidates) in three subjects taken together. Candidates must also have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics and 30% marks in English individually.
For a five-year degree course in Architecture, candidates must qualify either NATA or Paper-II of JEE Main.
West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences B. Tech (Dairy Technology) course
Qualifying Examination: Applicants must have passed class 10+2 or its equivalent from a recognized board of education.
Subjects: Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks in the subjects. 
Percentage Marks required: Candidates must have passed the qualifying exam with at least 50% marks (40% for reserved category candidates) in PCM and English taken together.

 

  • Neotia University
B.Tech courses in Computer Science & Engineering and Robotic Engineering
Candidate must have cleared 10+2 or equivalent Examination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Computer Sc. as compulsory subjects with minimum 60% marks in the above subjects taken together.
B.Tech courses in other branches
Applicants must have passed class 10+2 or equivalent with PCM as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above subjects taken together.
B.Tech course in Marine Engineering
Applicants must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with PCM as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above subjects taken together and minimum of 50% marks in English.
Most of the other universities follow similar eligibility criteria and processes. Hence, the candidate is required to adhere to all the above-mentioned criteria for admission under WBJEE 2020.
