Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled class 10th and 12th exams for the year 2021. Today PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretaries and other top officials to review the board examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. Earlier, CBSE Board 10th and 12th exams were to be held from 04 May 2021. However, now new dates and details will be announced in the month of June. On 01 June 2021, the situation will be reviewed by the central board and after that new date, sheet will be released for CBSE 12th exams.
In the wake of constantly increasing a number of COVID-19 cases and keeping the well being of the students at priority, it has been decided that CBSE will not hold board exams for class 10th this year. Also, the exams for class 12th has been postponed for now. Due to the increasing number of COVID cases, CBSE has cancelled class 10th board exams. The board has also postponed class 12th exams. As per the official press release, schools in 11 states are shut and the number of COVID cases are increasing day by day. Since CBSE boards are held at the National level, this decision has been taken.
The Prime Minister stated that the well being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government. He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.
Taking into consideration of the present pandemic and school closures, and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the students, the following decisions have been taken:
The Board Exams for Class 10th to be held from 4 May to 14 June 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of the Class 10th Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.
The Board Exams for Class 12th to be held from 04 May to 14 June 2021 are hereby postponed. These exams will be held hereafter. The situation will be reviewed on 01 June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations.
Students were waiting for any announcement regarding the CBSE 12th Board Exam 2021 but no decision was taken in this regard. According to media reports, the ministry has not agreed to cancel the examinations, but it has not rejected them. Earlier, the Ministry of Education had told that the decision on the CBSE examinations is expected to be taken by May 24, 25.
