JEE Main 2021: Syllabus, Pattern, Chemistry not mandatory


JEE Main 2021 will be conducted four times in 2021 by National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA will conduct JEE Main January Exam and JEE Main April Exam. The notification will be released by NTA in August 2020. National Testing Agency is government body under MHRD. This entrance examination is qualifying test for first year of UG courses at IITs, NITs, CFTIs and other participating institutes. Furthermore, JEE Main 2021 will be eligibility test for JEE Advanced 2021, a gateway to admission in India premium technical institutes IITs. While for admission into B.Arch & B.Plan courses, candidates must qualify JEE Main Paper –II & III.

Chemistry not mandatory for admission in engineering courses may affect JEE Main 2021 Eligibility

Recenlty All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced that Chemistry is not mandatory for admission into B.Tech and BE courses. This unrivaled move will allow thousands of students who have completed higher secondary with Physics and Mathematics along with other optional subjects including Biology and Biotechnology are also eligible to get admission into engineering courses from the next academic session.

JEE Main 2021 Application Correction

JEE Main 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The details regarding the JEE Main 2021 Eligibility criteria are mentioned below:

General Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian candidates as well as foreign candidates can apply for the exam.
  • Foreign Candidates: Candidates from foreign countries should have the necessary marks /percentage from a board recognized by AIU to be eligible for the JEE Main 2021 exam.
  • Age Limit: There is no such age limit specified by the authority for the JEE Main 2021 exam.
  • Number of Attempts: There is no attempt limit specified.

Qualification Criteria

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidate must have passed their class 12 or equivalent from a recognized board or university in 2019 or 2020.
  • Qualifying Subjects:
    • B.E/B.Tech: Candidates must have passed with physics as compulsory subjects along with Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, chemistry or any other subject as optional subjects.
      • Chemistry is not a compulsory subject anymore for B.E/B.Tech courses as per the recent notification by NTA.
    • B.Arch: Candidates must have passed class 12 with physics, chemistry and mathematics as compulsory subjects.
    • B.Plan: Candidates should have passed class 12 with mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • Diploma: Candidates who are having any diploma are also eligible to apply for the exam.
  • Appearing: Candidates who are appearing in class 12 in 2021 session are also eligible to apply for the exam.
    • Candidates who have passed their class 12 in 2018 or before are not eligible to apply for JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern

The details regarding the JEE Main 2021 Exam pattern are given below:

  • Exam Mode: JEE Main 2021 exam will be held in online mode(CBT mode).
  • Duration: The exam will be of 03 hours duration.
    • In the case of PWD candidate with 40% disability, extra 01 hours will be given to complete the exam.
  • Language: Candidates will attempt the JEE Main exam in Hindi and English language.
    • Candidates appearing for the JEE Mains exam in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli exam centres, the exam paper will be in English, Hindi & Gujarati language.
  • Type of Questions: The questions will be Objective type questions.
    • Also, according to the latest paper pattern, there will be some questions having answers in numerical values.
    • While in B.Arch there will be a subjective type question of drawing.
  • Number of Questions: 
    • B.E/B.Tech(JEE Main Paper-I): There will be a total of 75 questions.
    • B.Arch(JEE Main Paper-II): There will be a total of 77 questions.
    • B.Plan(JEE Main Paper-III): It will contain a total of 100 questions.
  • Exam Papers: Different papers will be conducted for different courses. The details are mentioned below:
    • B.E/ B.Tech course: JEE Main Paper – I
    • B.Arch: JEE Main Paper – IIThe

  • Marking Scheme: 
    • For every correct answer: 04 marks will be awarded.

  • JEE Main 2021 Syllabus will be released in online mode by the authority.
  • The syllabus will be from class 11 and class 12 topics of CBSE pattern.
  • Candidates may also prepare the topics from NCERT syllabus.

    • The JEE Main paper-I syllabus will be from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.

JEE Main Paper-II and Paper-III Syllabus (B.Arch/ B.Plan):

Part I: Buildings, Places, Materials, Awareness of persons, Visualizing, Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal), Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings, etc.

Part II: Building forms and elements, colour texture, Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, harmony and contrast, Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms, rotation, etc.
