KIIT Enters The Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings 2019

KIIT Deemed to be University is the only self-financing university from eastern India and Odisha to enter this prestigious global university ranking that aims to measure an institution’s impact on society based on its success in meeting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Last year, it had achieved an impressive rank in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 also which assesses research-intensive universities from 86 countries across all of their core missions.

The Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. According to the ranking report, KIIT has been rated high on sustainable development parameters such as Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), Partnership for Goals (SDG 17) and Quality Education (SDG 4). Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by the UN in 2016, provide a framework for developing the world in a sustainable way. In terms of other parameters, KIIT has got 101-200 position with respect to Reduced Inequalities; 201+ in Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and 301+ in Quality Education. Overall it has got 301+ position globally in impact rankings.

KIIT is just twenty-two years old as an institution for professional education (1997) and 15 years old as a University (2004). But, despite being a very young institution, it has got a place in the coveted World University Impact Rankings 2019, securing a position of 301+. IIT Bhubaneswar, as well as few well-known deemed universities from south India, have also found a place in the report, while KIIT has got the same success.

Staff, students and well-wishers of both KIIT & KISS profoundly thanked and expressed gratitude to the Founder of KIIT & KISS for his vision to carry out the mission of SDG, reducing inequalities since the inception of KIIT. Under his leadership, from the beginning, KIIT has been engaged in a lot of outreach work in Odisha and beyond. The present ranking is the result of that, they expressed to the Founder, KIIT & KISS.

JEE Main and NEET to be held again in January 2019

JEE Main and NEET to be held again
JEE Main and NEET to be held again

As NTA takes charge, reports say JEE Main and NEET to be held again in January 2019 and in May 2019. For the benefit of lakhs of students, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Javedkar announced that the National Medical Entrance Exam (NEET) and engineering entrance exam JEE might be conducted twice a year. Every year, students appear for these two entrance examinations in the hope of getting through the top engineering and medical colleges in the country. As mentioned by the authorities, like for the exams that were held in April, the forms were available by the month of December, but now as the exam itself is in January, the forms will be available by September.

Download NATIONAL TESTING SCHEME Draft by MHRD.

While many did not get through the first examination, they should not lose hope as the exams might be conducted again this year. The National Testing Agency (NTA) might conduct the JEE/NEET 2018 exams again this year in the month of December. The nod for setting up this agency was given by the Union Cabinet and the budget for the same was announced by Finance Minister Arjun Jaitley last year.

Presently the NTA will look after conducting the following entrance exams

  1. JEE Main 2019 (Joint Entrance Examination Main)
  2. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)
  3. UGC NET (National Eligibility Test)
  4. CTET (Central Teachers Eligibility Test)
  5. JNV (Jawahar Navodyay Vidhyalay)

NTA’s Future commitment

  1. JEE Advanced
  2. CAT (Common Admission Test)
  3. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Testing in Engineering)

How will this initiative by HRD Ministry benefit students?

The exams will be conducted at least twice a year online, giving an adequate opportunity for the candidates to bring out the best in them.

The HRD Minister is of the opinion that taking away the extra burden would leave CBSE with some space to focus on improving the quality of education.

The best benefit of NTA would be the conduct of JEE Main and NEET examinations twice a year in an online format. The twice a year examination for chief entrance examinations would help students to do well in their studies and most importantly give them an additional opportunity to appear without wasting their year.

And a lot of times it happens that the entrance examination and the board examination fall on the same date, creating a confusion and chaos among the students.

But this initiative will eliminate this problem forever, as there will be two entrance examinations conducted so that students can give their best and get through best colleges in their own respective fields.

Major Advantage of conducting Exams twice a year

Skip exams in April and May if it collides with boards: The examinations are at present conducted in the months of April and May, which are just after the board examinations for class 12th. This decision of exam happening twice in a year gives students the time to do their preparations, which is bound to benefit students immensely.

Relief to CBSE

The CBSE has conveyed its inhibitions to the HRD Ministry about conducting the exams in future, saying they are overburdened with the massive exercise.

Both the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to engineering colleges and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical colleges are currently conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE).

Currently, for seven entrance tests more than 40 lakh students appear — CAT, JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), GATE, CMAT, NEET, NET — held by the CBSE, IITs, IIMs and AICTE every year, reports TOI.

National Testing Agency (NTA)

The National Test Agency (NTA) is an independent body dedicated to conducting entrance tests for higher education, on the lines of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the United States.

The main motive behind the formation of NTA was to set up an entirely independent body that will only look after the proper and fair means to conduct the medical and engineering entrance examinations. Also, the foundation of the same was confirmed in the Union budget 2018 by Arun Jaitley. This has ultimately reduced the load over CBSE. Now they can look forward to the improvisation of the educational content, questions banks, study materials etc.

2015 JEE Main Case of Wrong Question/Answer Options

In an old article by a reputed news daily, April 2015 on the Wrong Question In JEE, says that in that year CBSE (earlier CBSE used to conduct JEE) awarded bonus marks for wrong question/answers. Similarly, earlier if a question was wrong, or no option was correct, then all students were supposed to get bonus marks of +4. If a question had more than one correct answer, and if a candidate had answered any one of those, then that candidate would have got marks. The decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in this regard shall be final and obligatory. Aspirants whose claims are found correct shall get their fee refunded.

NTA JEE Main 2019 Result will be announced by 31 January 2019 at jeemain.nic.in. It will only be on the basis of the final answer key decided by National Testing Agency.

DTU or NIT ? Which One to Prefer ?

DTU or NIT ? Which One to Prefer ?
DTU or NIT ? Which One to Prefer ?

Everyone who appears for Joint Entrance Exam (MAIN) and figures that they have done no good in it, they come to choose between NITs and DTU. To be honest and to answer in a nutshell, Delhi Technological University is far better than National Institutes of Technology. Situated in the national capital of India, the amount of exposure it gets is something to take into consideration, while choosing one in between the both.

Compare Colleges of your choice Here.

Comparison Between DTU and NITs

The students should not consider NITs as bad. It is good in its own ways. You will get a remarkable faculty in National Institutes of Technology, which is not the case with Delhi Technological University. But, this thing matters a little. According to a survey conducted, a majority of the students from entire globe prefer self-study. It answers the fact that this thing of best faculty matters a little.

The cutoffs of Delhi Technological University are very high as compared to National Institutes of Technology. It itself sings the galore of the Delhi Technological University. The placement opportunities of DTU are also very awesome. People here get the package in crores as well. And, not just a hefty package. There is this thing called social atmosphere and exposure. Delhi Technological University gives it at its best. Students here get many start-up opportunities. The workshops and on ground internships happen here in bulk. Students get to know about the different working environment from these workshops.

Also, the infrastructure of the college stands out. It has got very primitive facilities. The course structure of Delhi Technological University is something to take into account while taking a side in between the both. Also, the communication of DTUites is very much better if compared with the students of NITs. It is a fact that Delhi schools are the best in the country. And, as 85% of seats in Delhi Technological University are reserved for Delhi students, the communication skills among the students of DTU are something not to be questioned.

Also, students generally do M.B.A., Civil Services, and Other Coachings along with their study in technological institutions. If we talk about those things, Delhi Technological University situated at the national capital gives the best coaching facilities.

Conclusion of DTU vs NITs Comparison

DTU has been ranked 14 by the Outlook India, and 39 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. It also conducts many cultural and annual festival. The research presented by DTUites are considered best in itself. A student should also get varied exposure along with a bit of everything. Delhi Technological University makes it sure to provide the same to its students.

NITs are in no way bad. There stand exceptions for the case too. There are certain NITs which are better than DTU. But, if one asks in general as to what will be the best, the answer will always be Delhi Technological University.

The article is solely based on a personal view of the Author. And the comparison is based on open sources available. It may differ from another view. so do a personal research before choosing any college. – By Manmohan Agarwal
